‘BEYOND THERAPY’ by Christopher Durang

Come along on a journey to Manhattan New York in 1980 and meet a bizarre group of people; Bruce is a lawyer, with a brief, failed marriage behind him (and now has a ‘live in’
male lover named Bob).
Bruce knows that he is looking for more from life, and visits a psychotherapist, Charlotte, who suggests an ad. in a magazine and a date, where he meets the lovely, if slightly erratic and insecure, Prudence, also looking for more from life and also in therapy, with a sex addicted fantasist, called Stuart
Bob is not at all happy with Bruce’s pursuit of ‘happiness and babies’ with Prudence and, as usual, turns to his mother for help and advice.
This racy kaleidoscope swings from comedy to absurdist farce as the characters become enmeshed in their own selfish search for satisfaction, most of this takes place in a slightly surreal restaurant.
Restaurants are places where people often play out the dramas in their lives; trust me, I know, I used to own two in London in the 1980s. The restaurant in Beyond Therapy is no exception, it is a crazy place where the waiters are more interested in one another than giving service.
